Chennai-based Royal Sundaram recently introduced a cashless health insurance policy called Health Shield. Health Shield is a comprehensive health insurance package designed to offer complete protection in case of any sickness to the insured and family.
The project was launched in Bangalore and later the company expanded the same product selectively in other parts of India through their distribution partners. The cashless facility is at the moment available in 65 hospitals in Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and Kolkata. The company hopes that the network would cover 11 cities with over 100 hospitals in the next few months.
Speaking to Express Healthcare Management on the benefits of Health Shield, Micky Brigg, MD, Royal Sundaram, said, “Extensive research has highlighted the difficulty people face while trying to settle hospital bills and insurance claims. The benefit of a cashless facility is that the policyholder does not have to pay the hospital and the entire claims process is simplified.”
A notable feature is that the Health Shield covers pre-existing medical conditions after 5 years of consecutive cover with the company. It also comes with the other value additions like the cashless facility, 24-hour helpline and on-line access to medical and claims information.
The scheme further provides an ambulance referral facility, which is available for all health products. Health Shield is suitable for individuals and corporations alike where corporations can elect to have a Group Health cover for its employees. Emergency care and the prevention of complicated formalities in hospitals are two major segments covered by the policy. Customer can also get information on eligibility or ineligibility of a medical condition online.
To enhance the importance of preventive care the scheme offers discounts for health check-ups to encourage members to go for preventive care. Furthermore the company plans to organise wellness programmes on stress management etc. to improve the quality of life of the policy holders. The policy allows customers the flexible choice of three variants Health Shield, Health Shield Gold and Health Shield Extra. Health Shield Gold has a very special feature, which is the maternity cover, apart from the coverage of pre-existing medical conditions from the 6th year onwards.
Under the Health Shield Extra - apart from the coverage available for Health Shield Gold - there are additional benefits of Hospital Cash up to Rs 150 per day and accidental death cover of Rs 2,00,000. Royal Sundaram has appointed Medicare Services India Ltd, as its TPAs to support the administration and facilitation with medical networks.
